A message on Family Values - video

[The following is a video recording of an interview of Donnie Kennedy by Ray McBerry of Georgia First concerning the issue of Family Values Ray McBerry's comments are italicized.]

Ray: Welcome to another presentation of the Exploratory Committee for Donnie Kennedy’s Republican bid for President in 2008. We are joined here by Donnie Kennedy himself, the author of the best selling “The South Was Right” and another book as well, “Myths of American Slavery.” Donnie Kennedy’s Campaign platform and other issues can be found on his website: www.ElectDonnieKennedy.com . Donnie, thank you for being back with us.

Donnie: Thank you it is a pleasure.

Ray: Donnie I would like to ask you a question that is important to many of us who are here in the South and especially those of us who grew up here in the South. For most of us traditional Christian family values is just a part of who we are, and we like that. What role do you see that the federal government should play in restoring Christian family values?

Donnie: Ray, I can answer that real quick. The role the federal government has in family values is none. The federal government has no mandate from “we the people” of the sovereign States to promote family values per se. That doesn’t mean that I don’t understand that there is a lot that the federal government can and has done and continues to do that literally is destroying good morality in this country and good family values. So yes there are some things that they are doing now that we have got to put a stop to. These are what we call unconstitutional things, things that are not mandated by the Constitution that the federal government is doing. And then again, there is nothing that we really want the federal government to do to get into our family life. They are already taking money out of our family’s budget, let’s don’t get them involved anymore. About the only thing they are good at, seems like, is taxing anyway.

Let me give you an example of federal involvement and how it adversely affects families. All families, not just individual families, but in America in general. At one time the federal government started the aid to dependent families or children. Children that were born out of wedlock. Interestingly the number one rule in socialism, if you haven’t already figured this out, is that the more you subsidize something the more you get of that thing you are subsidizing. And once we started subsidizing children born out of wedlock, guess what, Ray, we got more and more of it. In the early 1960’s for example, about 18% of black children were born out of wedlock and about 8% of white children were. Then we started this socialized campaign of providing aid to these people – we have got help them you know – Ray. And guess what happened? Today 22% of whites and 70% of black children are born out of wedlock. Think of the damage that does to every community. I am not just talking about white communities or black communities, I am talking about all of society, when you have children born and raised in an unstable environment. And you know like I do - we need good stable home lives for these children. And that is socialism and directly related to the federal government getting involved in something it shouldn’t be involved in.

Now another thing. Think about this Ray. When I was born in 1947 my Mother stayed at home with us, my Father worked and yet we had cars, we had a home, and had good food. One person could work and Moms stayed home and watched the kids and raised the children. But do realize that at that point in time the federal government extracted about 4%, count ‘em, one, two, three,  four percent of my Father’s income in taxation. 94% stayed with my Father. Guess what happens today Ray? The federal government extracts, I don’t have enough fingers here, twenty to forty percent! We would have to use my fingers, my toes, your fingers and your toes to count the amount in percentage of dollars that the federal government is taking out from the families. Guess why Mom is working today? Mom is working just to pay the family tax bill

Now there is the adverse effect on family values that I was talking about with the federal government. And until we can address an out of control federal government – a federal government that we can not force to live by the Constitution – we are going to continue to destroy families in this country. States Rights – Real States Rights is the difference between being able to control the federal government and being able NOT to control the federal value. We need to get the government under control. We need to get the federal government out of our pockets and out of our lives. This is why I am in the campaign.

I want to address these issues. I want the Republican Party to understand that they have been derelict in addressing this issue. They all talk about family values, Ray. Its like talking about the weather, they aren’t doing anything. I say it time to quit just talking and do something. The system is broken. The Republican Party is broken. How long had we had Presidents elected that are Republican? Congresses elected that are Republican. Supreme Courts filled with Republican appointed Justices and yet Ray. The government grows, taxes get higher, our liberty is being trampled on more and more. Electing more Republicans and the status quo will not solve the problem. That is why Donnie Kennedy is in this campaign. We have got make them realize that the system is broken and we have got to fix that system.

It was thoroughly broken at Appomattox where States Rights was destroyed. We are going to return this country to the foundational principles that Our Founding Fathers gave us. And then we can solve these issues, whether it is illegal immigration, lack of family values, high taxation, illegal wars ….

Ray: 39

Donnie: Ray, I will be 60 this year. Sixty years and in the entirety of my life there have been close to 200,000 (two hundred thousand) American military personnel destroyed in wars. Do know how many wars Congress has declared in that time?

Zero! Congress has been derelict in its responsibility. That is part of the federal government. And no one has called them into account. We have got to force the federal government to live by the Constitution.
