Restoring Checks and Balances on the federal government!

I have often been asked, “Why are you people so hung-up on State’s Rights?”  First, we love this country that our Founding Fathers gave us and the vast majority of those men, loved State’s Rights; second, I believe in limited government, that is, a government where no one person or group of people holds all the power of government.

Possessing a Biblical worldview, our Founding Fathers understood that sinful man cannot be trusted with power over his fellow man.  Therefore they gave us a Federal government rich in checks and balances.  This system of checks and balances was used to prevent one group from abusing the rights and interests of another group.

Today most people think of checks and balances in the context of the Federal government (Executive, judicial, and legislative).  Yet for the Founding Fathers the major Check and balance within our system of government was the division of delegated power of the Federal government and all other power retained by the people of each sovereign states—thus we have State’s Rights.

In 1798 Thomas Jefferson and James Madison wrote and the Legislatures of Kentucky and Virginia adopted the famous Kentucky and Virginia Resolves.  In these resolves Jefferson and Madison clearly demonstrate that it is a function of the people of each state to force the Federal government to live within the limitations of the Constitution.

Jefferson and Madison point out that the Federal government cannot and must not be allowed to be the final judge of its delegated powers or else Federal tyranny would result.  Federal tyranny!!  Now do you understand why I feel so strong about State’s Rights?      

For decades the Republican Party has preached "limited government" but practiced "out of control government." The Republican Party has cowered before "political correctness" and for decades has become part of the problem, not the solution.

We can continue allowing political correctness to control the Republican Party or we can return to the Principles Upon Which Our Country was Founded. The Republican Party under the leadership of Abraham Lincoln destroyed States Rights and we will not and can not begin to restore sanity to the government until that fact is debated, recognized and corrected.
